That’s SoCal: Day 6

The past month or so has been crazy! So much to do, so little time. Also, I think, deep down, that I’m not ready to end this series. It was such a wonderful experience for me, and I’ve loved sharing my story with you all. Thanks for reading.

I woke up to the best croissant I’d ever had. Justin bought some for the house, and I’m so glad he did. I hadn’t had one in so long! Like, why are croissants so tasty?! *insert crying emoji here*

Just look at that beautiful pastry. It was delicious.

It was a pretty chill day. We figured we should get some good food. I mean, all of the food I had in San Diego was awesome, so we went to go find more awesome food.

I told Justin about my horrible first experience with Hawaiian food. I had some delivered from a seemingly popular restaurant. I was SO excited. When I finally tried it, I regretted every cent I spent on it. Every bite I took. I didn’t even eat half of the food. It was that bad. I was actually really bummed about it. After telling Justin my story, he suggested a different Hawaiian food spot. Thank God. He said that he heard it was good, so I was up for it.

The Island Cafe is in San Diego not too far from North Park. I loved the atmosphere. We went at lunchtime and were the only customers there. It’s a family-friendly restaurant, and you could feel that even though there weren’t any other customers. Also, I loved how simple the interior was and thought the pineapple lights were a nice touch. The staff was really nice, too. That’s always a good thing.

I ordered the Island BBQ Chicken with fried rice and a garden salad with mango dressing. My beverage of choice was the Michele Wie, which is a passionfruit iced tea/lemonade mixed. I don’t think any word could describe what this meal was actually like. I would say scrumptious, but that kind of feels like it’s an understatement. This meal was one of the best I have ever had.

The BBQ chicken was very flavorful. The fried rice was perfect. The two went together so well. And that salad. My goodness. This was the first time I had ever heard of mango dressing. I’m so glad I chose it. This dressing was otherworldly. Life-changing, even. Actually, I think “otherworldly” is the best word for this meal. If you’re ever in San Diego, go to the Island Cafe.

I ended up having more great food for dinner. We went to the Lucha Libre Taco Shop. You may have heard about it on the show, Man vs. Food. I didn’t know it existed until Justin and Eric told me about it. They said it was awesome, so of course I was excited to check it out. They suggested the Surf n’ Turf burrito, which is basically the California burrito with a seafood twist. When I tell you this burrito was like heaven on Earth, I mean it. I’m a Maryland girl, so I love me some seafood. I loved the California burrito the minute I tried it. Of course these things made a beautiful combination.
