Chicken & Waffles at The Capital Burger

There aren’t many restaurants that are open early and close late. The Capital Burger Reston is one that you should put on your list. This new Reston, Virginia location–connected to the Hyatt Regency Hotel Reston–serves breakfast unlike the Washington, D.C. location.

My fellow foodie, @nikki_foodventures on Instagram, invited me to their preview. We had an early morning (7 am) reservation. Yes, you read that correctly. This location opens at 6:30 am and closes at 2 am everyday!

To be transparent, this meal was free. I was not asked to do a blog post or post on social media in exchange for anything. All opinions are genuine and have not been swayed.

What I Ordered

The preview menu highlighted some drins such as La Colombe (coffee, espresso, latte, mocha, cappuccino); chocolate milk; grapefruit soda; and mint lemonade. The breakfast entrees available were the Ducktrap Riveer Smoked Salmon; Chicken and Waffles; and the All American breakfast. I considered ordering mint lemonade because it sounds amazing, but I chose coffee to try to wake me up a bit. I ordered chicken and waffles with a side of bacon because who doesn’t love this dish? It’s a great, tasty way to start your day.

These chicken and waffles were amazing! The texture of the waffle was perfect. This particular maple syrup-spicy fried chicken combo was the best I’ve ever had. I was a surprised that the chicken had a kick to it. This definitely took this classic dish up a notch. The whipped cream was a nice touch and had a great texture.

Conclusion

I’d absolutely go back to The Capital Burger’s Reston, VA location. It’s great, especially for travelers, that they open early and close late. It’s cool that this location is inside of a hotel. I wouldn’t mind staying at this hotel just to have this restaurant to go to.

Bottomless Brunch Sunday at Dos Caminos

Finding a bottomless brunch restaurant can be hard when most recommend reservations. You might end up bummed if you do it too late. Thankfully, some places still have spots available even the night before, which are hard to come by.

Dos Caminos is a restaurant, which has a few different locations in Manhattan, that offers a two-hour bottomless brunch add-on for $18. This prices is one of the cheapest I’ve ever seen. You can choose mimosas, frozen margaritas, bloody Mary’s, screwdrivers, or sparkling wine. This add-on is truly worth it, since the waiters don’t leave you with an empty glass for long.

What I Ordered

Dos Caminos’ menu has so many great drink and meal options that it was hard to choose! After weighing my options, I ordered bottomless frozen margaritas and Mexican French Toast.

This dish already sounded amazing. It tasted even better! This dish is described in the menu as “crispy pan torrejas, rum, and cajeta caramel roasted bananas. Cajeta is a syrup which is usually made of sweetened, caramelized goat’s milk, according to Wikipedia.

Dos Caminos’ Mexican French Toast

The cajeta-roasted bananas, whipped cream, and syrup made the perfect topping combo for French Toast. Dos Caminos got it just right, and it was so hard not to order some to-go. If you like or want to try French toastthis is one you definitely need to try!

Conclusion

Dos Caminos’ bottomless brunch is absolutely worth it. I love that you get your money’s worth when you get the bottomless drinks add-on. The wait was also reasonable. If you’re looking for a place to brunch in NYC during the weekend, definitely check it out!

Until next time.

Iron Rooster

My sister has talked about Iron Rooster for so long and said that I needed to go for some time now. She’d spoken so highly of this place, so I knew I had to try it. She decided to take our family to brunch there. Iron Rooster is a restaurant located in downtown Annapolis, MD that has plenty of breakfast and lunch/dinner food options. When you peruse the menu, there’s plenty of super Maryland dishes, which is fitting since it’s located in our state’s capital.

The restaurant is mostly narrow and opens up a bit more the further in you go and has an upstairs. If you’ve been in any old town or historic area buildings, that’s how it’s built. The staff kindly greeted us and took us to a table upstairs, which has a little cafe-like area by the front window. Interestingly, this place has a homey feel to it.

What I Ordered

My sister ordered RoosTarts (homemade “Poptarts”) for our table while we looked at our meal options, since it was the rest of our family and my first time there. There are different flavors available daily. We ordered brown sugar and chocolate banana, which they thankfully warm up for you. The brown sugar cinnamon was absolutely amazing! It tastes 10 times better than the Pop Tart version and is much thicker. This treat melts on your mouth and would be great with or without the whipped cream and powdered sugar. As for the chocolate banana, I thought it was okay. I think I would’ve liked it more if it was a bit sweeter.

After mulling over the menu, I chose to get brioche French toast topped with strawberries (optional) and spiced maple bourbon butter. I didn’t know this butter existed until going here, and I absolutely loved it! The French toast would’ve been good without it, but the butter elevated this dish. The toast was made with apple and vanilla bean egg batter, which was complimented well by the butter, syrup, and strawberries.

Conclusion

I’d absolutely visit Iron Rooster again. The food didn’t disappoint, and there are so many other dishes I want to try. There’s truly something for everyone on their menu. If you’re ever in Annapolis, MD, give Iron Rooster a try!

That Waffle Was Totally Wicked!

Who knew a waffle could be so wicked?

My sister told me about this awesome waffle spot in Bethesda, and her rich descriptions of the dessert waffles HAD me. She took my mom and me to Wicked Waffle, which only has locations in the Washington, D.C. Metro Area as of right now: I Street NW in DC and Westfield Montgomery Mall (food court). I hope they get more locations soon because anyone who loves waffles should experience this deliciousness!

Wicked Waffle has breakfast, savory, and dessert options. This company prides themselves on having fresh ingredients; not adding artificial ingredients or calories to any of their food; using fresh, local ingredients; and having gluten-free waffles. They also have soups and salads that are made fresh daily.

A restaurant's menu posted on the wall

There’s no way you won’t find more than one menu item that you want. Choosing a concoction was so hard for me! I knew that I wanted a sweet waffle, which wasn’t even half the battle. C’mon. How am I supposed to choose between the Nutella Waffle and the Tiramisu Waffle? The Sweet Waffle with vanilla ice cream and the Roasted Fuji Apples & Cinnamon Waffle?

What I Ordered

I hate taking forever to make food-related decisions, so I just chose one of the two I narrowed it down to…the Roasted Fuji Apples & Cinnamon Waffle. This amazing dish has everything in its name and traditional whipped cream or caramel cream (didn’t even know this existed). The waffle had the perfect amount of fluff, and the toppings didn’t make it soggy. I prefer my waffles sweet, so this was the perfect one for me.

I had the chance to meet the super cool district manager on the day I went, and he added a personal touch to my order: caramel sauce. My GOODNESS. I don’t think I was ready for that waffle. My sister told me it was amazing, but when I finally had it myself, I was at a loss for words.

Conclusion

Although this location is now closed, I would definitely go to Wicked Waffle’s Washington, D.C. location. I love that they have great options, there seems to be something for just about everyone.

Until next time.

Update 01/31/2020: Wicked Waffle’s Montgomery Mall location is now closed. They still have their D.C. location on Eye St. NW.
